Benchmark #1: Photography Rule of Thirds

Create a blog post name it Photography: Rule of Thirds. You need to compose four (4) photographs for each of these requirements:

Photograph 1 Requirement:

  • Compose your photograph so that the focus is placed on one of the intersection points. 
  • Compose your photograph so that there is one dominant vertical element placed along either of the vertical guidelines. 

Photograph 3 Requirement:

Compose your photograph so that there is one dominant horizontal element placed along either of the horizontal guidelines.

Compose your photograph so that your subject is moving or facing particular direction. Leave room in the frame to lead the subject. 

For each of your photos describe what are the main elements of your image and explain why they are the main elements of your photo.

What is the Rule of Thirds

The rule of thirds is the process of dividing an image into thirds, using two horizontal and two vertical lines. This imaginary grid yields nine parts with four intersection points. When you position the most important elements of your image at these intersection points, you produce a much more natural image.
