A prototype is an early sample, model, or release of a product built to test a concept or process or to act as a thing to be replicated or learned from. It is a term used in a variety of contexts, including semantics, design, electronics, and software programming. For this particular class students the design thinking process to create prototypes for automotive design using clay, footwear rendering drawing both in an isometric and orthographic process and later create sneaker traction patterns using a 3D printer.

The second half of the year students construct a skateboard deck using state of the art equipment. After completion students then use Adobe Photoshop to create a design for the deck. In this portion, students learn about bitmap and vector graphics. They also learn more and the end result is taking the industry certification test at the end of the year.
